Dan and Emily’s, Somerville, MA

October 11 – 14, 2019

We encountered some traffic on the way to Lakeville Self storage so the 2 hr 15 minute drive took longer than expected.  Luckily the weather had cleared up a bit by the time we got there.  A sprinkle instead of a Dunkin Donuts downpour.  Still windy though.  First time parking the van where snow could accumulate on the solar panels. The plan was to disconnect the house batteries so there would be no draw on them. Not as simple as it should be.  Everything disconnected and the panel was still getting power. But it was getting late, we were tired and we had to be out of the storage facility (or spend the night there).  I had the cover positioned for quick installation.  The method worked ok – but the new cover was too small.  Hopefully it will stay on until spring.  KOW.  Not the easiest van tuck away we’ve had.

We ubered to the  Middleboro/Lakeville station and took the commuter rail to South Station.  Emily was a hero and braved Boston evening traffic to pick us up.  Why exactly do I have a heavy bag?  I really have to work on the traveling light goal.  Well – we are heading to the desert so I needed desert and AK clothes.  It was nice to get to their cozy house in Somerville. She even had dinner for us.

The next day we did a 3 Little Figs breakfast and then a walk to the dog park. Over 5 miles – too bad I didn’t strava the whole trek.   Jasper was the social butterfly of the park.  Rick and Emily discussed the batteries and figured out what was going on and how to fix it.  So…we planned a trip back to the van.  Dan loaned us his car.  We dropped them off at Blue Hill Reservation, a park between Somerville and Lakeville.  The cover was still on, just a bit up in the front.  Rick broke in and was able to really disconnect the batteries.  Guess he will be working on a battery switch.  Back at Blue Hill’s Rick went for a run and Emily, Dan, Jasper and myself went for a walk and picnic.  Monday AM – Emily took us to the airport and we headed to Vegas.  No I have not become a lover of glitz or gambling.  We went to join the Widness clan for joint bday celebrations.
