Jan 28 thru 31, 2023 As per Jill’s recommendation we had the avocado toast for lunch at Bob’s Well Bread in Los Alamos. We were not disappointed. The toast was on a bed of greens and seasoned with kosher salt and Aleppo pepper flakes. And it was huge. I was still full at dinner time. …

Oct 30 thru Nov 2, 2022 Head to Fresno a day earlier than expected. Looking for Paxlovid for me. Traveling and being on Medicare makes the task frustrating, but I finally find a clinic that will give it to me. Our hotel is marginal, in a sketchy neighbourhood, but I am content to hang out…
Oct 28 thru Oct 30, 2022 Phyllis lays low while Rick trail runs from camp for a total of 10.5 miles. Beautiful among the rocks. Rick has some Kamehameha Block moments remembering our visit to Pinnacles with Emily, back when she lived in CA.. I greet Rick with a positive Covid 19 test when he…
Oct 27 thru Oct 28, 2022 We move to Piffer-Big Sur State Park. They won’t let us check-in, or even enter the park until 2pm so we kill a couple of hours at the Bakery with some good surfing (internet, not wave) and over priced Pastrami sandwiches. We find our site near hot showers and…
Oct 24 thru Oct 27, 2022 Stop at Paso Robles for some road biking. I notice a bubble on the Black Stallions front tire. Rick rides carefully to a nearby bike shop and gets a new tire. Then rides the 30+ mile Peachy Canyon Loop. 2,500 plus elevation gain with glorious windy roads and vineyards. …
Oct 23 thru Oct 24, 2022 Took advantage of the empty, clean and cheap laundry to wash a few clothes. Also caught up on some internet chores. Noon to Cerro Alto. Site 8 was recommended by the host. Good choice, private and roomy. Headed up Cerro Alto, the highest peak in the San Luis Obispo…
Oct 22 thru Oct 23, 2022 We leave around noon and the windy roads take us down to the straight roads of the Central Valley. Find a taco truck for some afternoon tacos and enough internet to secure camping that evening in Rancho Colina, a commercial place just out of Moro Bay. We book the…
Oct 20 thru Oct 22, 2022 More black diamond van driving, almost 4 hours to sentinel CG in Kings Canyon. Shower stop at Corp of Engineers lake CG – we had to reserve a campsite but only $10 with the Senior Pass so still reasonable showers. Gave away our extra soccer chairs to a couple…
Oct 18 thru Oct 20, 2022 Time for some big trees, starting with the Trail of 100 Gaints. The trees are impressive – but we forgot to do our homework and didn’t realize we were heading into a giant burn. Note to self – check fire maps before planning route. Huge burns from 2020 and…
Oct 17 thru Oct 18, 2022 One night stay and Walker Pass Campground. Its right on the Pacific Crest Trail – but most of the campers were hunters. Quiet CG with nice views and relatively clean outhouses.
Oct 15 thru Oct 17, 2022 Mid afternoon arrival at Rich and Kim Suddocks in Tuscona, Indian Wells, CA. i.e. Palm Springs. We enjoy their hospitality for several days, enjoying an impressive downpour, hiking to Suicide Rock near Idyllwild, CA and running (Rick and Rich) the Art Smith Trail.

Sept 27 thru Oct 13, 2022 Wake up and shop at REI for last minute river gear. Check into the Double Tree Inn and connect with our fellow river rats. Park the van in the hotel parking lot. Fingers crossed the peppermint spray and poison will prevent a mouse infestation. KOW.
