We left Austin at 11am after breakfast and visiting with S & M. Two stops – West Marine for snaps to finish the bug net and the Bicycle Sport Shop to reset Rick’s MTB tire and get a replacement gravel grinder tire. Rick’s had two Maxxis tires fail, is it bad luck or crummy tires? Hit the road at noon – long day of driving getting to Beavers Bend State Park around 7. Some “micro strength” at a roadside rest stop rejuvenated us for the last part of the drive.
Beavers Bend State Park is very nice campground with water, hot showers and electric for $27. Rick set out to ride to the reservoir. He went 23 miles and gained 1,650 ft. I put the snaps in the bug net – its done! Then set out for a short ride. Nice roads, very little traffic.
After a shower we walk the trails to the visitor center. It has a great forestry museum complete with old tools and saws. Even a Wright Saw Dad used to have – it looked like a museum piece.
Lots of thunder, lightening and rain on our second night. The awning rafter helps keep water from pooling up.
