Time to start working our way back to Heidi. Sorry our vacation is over – but happy to be spending the weekend with Heidi. And looking forward to enjoying some home time before our next van adventure. With Art’s moose hunt thrown in there. No Monday creep when you are retired!
The days adventure was to climb Sacajawea Peak. We drove in the road to Fairy Lake as far as we thought prudent. The rough spots had no turn around, and the good stretches tempted us to drive farther. We finally decided enough bumping along and parked. A 2.4 mile, 760 ft climbing bike ride took us to the Sacajawea Trailhead. I was walking up a steep hill when two girls passed me, riding and chatting like it was nothing. I asked for a tow, they made some friendly comments and went on their way. I get to the top and Rick is talking to them. It turns out they know Heidi. Ayna is a good friend of Heidi’s. Her friend, Emily, clarified that we were “Bad Ass” Heidi’s parents. The encounter made our day. Well that and the hike up Sacajawea was awesome. (4.9 miles RT, 1,880 ft climb) Too smokey to see anything and very windy at the top so we opted to save Naya Nuki Peak for next time. What a fun downhill bomb on the bike back to the van. I flew on Tina – 16 mph max! Guess I didn’t hike/bike all that fast because Rick had a 12 volt outlet almost installed by the time I got back.
Camping at Battle Ridge! I’ve wanted to camp here ever since we passed by biking to Wilsall. (OK I drove on that trip but biked from Wilsall toward the pass and back.)
