Left Goat Head Gulch at the crack of dawn. We wanted to get to Kanab in time enter lottery for “the Wave”. 10 names are drawn each day and the lucky winners can hike the wave. There is also an on-line auction that has another 10 lucky winners – but you have to plan ahead for that one. One rumor I read is that the permits were started after Microsoft used a picture of the Wave as the desktop wallpaper when they released Windows 7. That started a massive rush of people that wanted to explore the wave.
Didn’t win but went on to hike Wire Pass and Buckskin Gulch.
We left a car at the Buckskin Gulch trailhead and then drove to the Wire Pass trailhead so we could hike one way. Hiking Wire Pass to Buckskin Gulch. You can take Buckskin Gulch 20 some miles to Lee’s Ferry. That might require some mud slogging and/or wading.
Heading down Wire Pass.
Time to get slotty,.
Handy to have a ladder for this tricky spot.
Glad we had a good forecast. ie no rain in sight. Knock on wood.
Grafitti took more persistance before spray paint was invented.
Rick and Joyce both wanted to take the elephant home.
The trail had lots of varity. Open high desert, slots and slick rock.
Lunch stop.
Narrow ledges made for secure walking.
Way too many pics – but I loved the swirls and color variations.
A little water is all it takes to make the desert luch.
Going up was easy. Coming down a bit more nerve-wracking.
Joyce tried to take the sand dunes home.
After the hike we headed into Page and camped at Lone Rock CG.
